About Vedanta Society of Toronto

Vedanta Society of Toronto
Swami Vivekananda installed Sri Ramakrishna on the grounds of the Belur Math, he said that he felt as if the Master's ideas shot forth from that place and flooded the whole universe, sentient and insentient. Those rays of light also reached the shores of Toronto and took root there. Silently, slowly and invisibly they grew in strength until they surfaced in the mental horizon of a few devotees who were searching for spirituality. These rays of truth found expression in the desire of the devotees to have place where they could study and discuss the universal and life-giving message of Vedanta. Thus was born the Vedanta Society of Toronto.

The society was officially inaugurated on November 30, 1968. The ceremony took place at the YMCA building on 21 McGill street. It was presided over by Swami Bhasyananda and the chief guest was Swami Ranganathananda. The Vedanta Society of Toronto moved to it's present location (120 Emmett Avenue) on June 25, 1995 Swami Lokeswarananda presided over the formal inauguration and Swami Swahananda was in attendance...continued on about us page.
